Conor McGregor names Kieran Tierney his favourite player as ex-Celtic hero makes his mark on MMA legend

MMA champ Conor McGregor has named former Celtic star Kieran Tierney has his favourite footballer.

The left-back made a £25m move to Arsenal in the summer and is starting to make an impact after recovering from a groin injury.

Tierney is already winning over Gunners fans but he's got an even more notorious supporter behind him.

Asked to name his favourite player MMA legend McGregor replied: "Nowadays there's a young guy, Kieran Tierney.

"He was the captain of Celtic Football Club and he recently signed with Arsenal.

"He's been a phenomenal supporter of mine, he's been supporting me over the years. He's risen up and he's a phenomenal, phenomenal football player.

"Check him out, he just signed with Arsenal.

"I'm in conversation with him and he's a great guy, a good kid, and I'm rooting for him."

Tierney shared the video on his Twitter account and responded: "Thank you so much brother! An icon and my hero. Learned so much from you. The King."

McGregor is a former UFC champion at both the featherweight and lightweight divisions, and famously fought undefeated boxing champions Floyd Mayweather in 2017, losing in round 10.
