Conor McGregor names his next opponent ahead of Dustin Poirier rematch

Conor McGregor has named a familiar face from his past as his next opponent ahead of his UFC return against Dustin Poirier.

The Notorious one is expected back in the Octagon in January to take on 'The Diamond' in a rematch of their 2014 bout - a key win for McGregor during his rise to stardom.

But with that fight not yet confirmed, McGregor is already looking at what's next after that as he eyes up an opponent he never got his hands on in 2016.

Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos defeated Paul Felder last Saturday and called out the Dubliner as fans speculated that there could be a chance to reschedule a fight that never happened.

The pair were set to face-off in March 2016 for the UFC lightweight title, but dos Anjos pulled out after suffering a late injury, leading to Nate Diaz stepping in.

But as the pair went in seperate directions in the years since, it seems the stars have aligned as McGregor responded to dos Anjos' call out.

In reference to the dos Anjos speculation, McGregor tweeted: "Dustin first, but I’m down for it all".

It comes after McGregor blasted fans for criticising his move to fight UFC veteran Donald Cerrone earlier this year.

The Notorious one needed just 40 seconds to get the job done against the American at UFC 246 in January as he dismantled the veteran in his return to the Octagon.

But in an recent interview, McGregor has slammed fans who criticised his choice of opponent.

In a scathing response to his critics, McGregor claimed that vocal fans were projecting their 'insecurities' through the criticism of the Cerrone fight.

"You know you go online and you'll see some guy like 'Hey, you only f*****g fought Cerrone' like imagine some guy saying that about a legend," McGregor told Parimatch.

"The way the fans kind of try to downplay who you fought or something or say 'You haven't fought this guy yet' or you ain't done that.

"If you think of it like a mirror, that person who's writing this or saying this, he himself is projecting his own insecurities because that person wouldn't have fought anyone on planet Earth.

"So he's saying, 'You ain't doing this, you ain't doing that' when really it's in his own thoughts that he ain't done this or ain't done that on any scale, so it's like a mirror.

"You know as long as your own self is right, everything else around you will become right. And that's it."
