Conor McGregor makes his prediction for Dustin Poirier trilogy - including round and shot

Conor McGregor expects to be taken into deep water by Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight.

The lightweight rivals will clash for a third time at UFC 264 on July 10, six months after Poirier won their rematch by second-round stoppage.

And having predicted he would win that fight within 60 seconds, McGregor expects to win the third instalment in the fourth round.

Posting on Instagram, the Irishman went as far as to name the fight-finishing shot.

"The prediction is in! I’m going to win the trilogy fight via a front kick to the nose; round number four," he wrote.

Having won his first fight with Poirier in 2014, McGregor was favoured to repeat the feat earlier this year.

But having fought just twice since October 2018, the Dubliner was soundly beaten by his 155lb rival.

Poirier was then offered a shot at the title vacated by Khabib Nurmagomedov but instead chose the more lucrative option if a third fight with McGregor.

Instead, Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira will clash for the belt next month.

McGregor has been training in Dubai ahead of an official announcement confirming his bout with Poirier.

Poirier signed his contract last week with McGregor expected to follow suit.

The bout will likely take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas but that is conditional on a capacity crowd being allowed.

McGregor has already offered an insight into his tactics for the trilogy fight by calling on Poirier to meet him in the centre of the cage.

After the American had said: "I never slack, I'll meet you in the middle of the octagon July 10", McGregor responded: "Good to hear Dustin, I hope so as last time you backed up and shot inside the first 30 seconds.

"I’ll be in the middle from the very go if you want it. You know that. I’ll be ready for the tactics this time too though. See you in there."
