Conor McGregor hoping to 'acquire rounds' against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246

Conor McGregor is hoping his clash with Donald Cerrone lasts a number of rounds as he looks to get fight experience under his belt before he targets bigger bouts.

The Notorious makes his highly anticipated UFC return at long last in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He comes into the fight as the odds-on favourite with the bookies to get the win, but is hoping the contest goes on for a few rounds.

Speaking ahead of the fight, McGregor said: "I'm going to go in, I'm going to look to acquire rounds in here. I'm not going to be in a rush, I'm going to put pressure on Donald, I'm going to hurt Donald.

"If he can last, I'll be happy to acquire rounds here and then build on these rounds.

"I feel after the Diaz 2 build-up that I had and then the performance I had in the bout itself and then leading into the Eddie Alvarez fight. I just felt like I was in prime condition and untouchable so I'm looking to acquire that time in there again.

"Make no mistake, I'm coming with all my intent and all my skills to put Donald away."

Cerrone has more UFC wins and fights than anyone else, but has lost his last two bouts.

Cerrone described McGregor as "the whole package" ahead of their main event bout, but also claimed he will have the most fun he's ever had during the fight.

He said: "When he gets up on stage, he speaks very well. He grew this sport tremendously. The dudes a superstar

"He speaks well in front of the media. He brings a lot of eyes, a lot of attention, he's the whole package."
