Conor McGregor hard at work ahead of gruelling 180km Mediterranean challenge

Conor McGregor has put in his final preparations ahead of a gruelling 180km Mediterranean challenge later this week.

The retired UFC star is in Monaco, and after celebrating his engagement to Dee Devlin and enjoying family time with his son Conor Jr. and daughter Croia, he's training for a big challenge.

The Dubliner is teaming up with Princess of Monaco, and he'll head off to Corsica for a September 12 bike race which finishes in Monaco the next day.

Princess Charlene is both the event's chief organiser and the defending team champion and trained with McGregor when they met earlier in the summer.

And ahead of the big day, McGregor took to Instagram to share some snaps of his preparations.

Meanwhile, we could finally get to see a McGregor vs Diaz fight in the near future, just not the match-up that fans were expecting.

Nick Diaz is finally set to return to the octagon after over five years away from the UFC, with reports confirming this week that the Stockton fighter is targeting an early 2021 return after completing a test weight cut.

The 37-year-old veteran is primed for a welterweight return, with Conor McGregor touted as a potential opponent.

Although McGregor announced his retirement from MMA earlier this summer, fans are speculating that the dream match could happen given the bad blood between the Notorious one and the Diaz brothers.

In fact, McGregor comes in at just 4/1 in the stakes for the veteran's first fight in a UFC return - with only Jorge Masvidal and Robbie Lawlor slightly ahead of him.

And fans were quick to urge McGregor to take the fight as speculation mounted of the dream match-up.

One fan said: "Why fight a 3rd fight with the student (Nate Diaz), When you can fight the teacher. Conor are you there?"

"Mcgregor vs Nick Diaz is the one. It’s like having the trilogy without doing the trilogy," another added. "Imagine how big McGregor vs Nick Diaz would be".
