Conor McGregor has been handed a six-month suspension, backdated to the day of UFC 229, following the brawl which broke out in the octagon following his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khabib received a nine-month suspension, which will be reduced to six should he attend an anti-bullying course, and a vast fine of $500,000 (£380,950).
The October fight, which was won by Khabib via a fourth-round submission, turned ugly immediately after its finish when Khabib vaulted the cage and went for one of McGregor’s entourage, Dillon Danis, prompting a melee inside and outside the ring.
McGregor became embroiled in a scuffle with some of his oppenent’s team before he was led away.
The Irishman, who is currently serving a six-month ban from driving, has alrady served four months of his ban and therefore will be eligible to fight from 6 April.
McGregor’s next fight will be against Donald Cerrone, who shone at UFC Brooklyn, stopping Alex Hernandez in the second round after a barrage of punches followed a perfectly executed head kick.
Cerrone called out McGregor afterwards, stating: ”This is the fight (vs Hernandez) the UFC and I both wanted. Now I want top five and I even want Conor if he’ll agree to it. Conor would be awesome.
“Anyone in the top five. I’m coming for the belt. ‘Cowboy’ is back, I’m on a roll and here I come.”
