Conor McGregor hails 'space pioneer' Richard Branson after maiden journey

Conor McGregor has congratulated billionaire businessman Richard Branson after the 70-year-old successfully made it to space in his own rocket.

Branson made the 53-mile trip north of planet earth on Sunday aboard his Virgin Galactic spaceship and can now add the title of ‘astronaut’ to his CV.

The event was quite a low-key affair as the Euro 2020 final between England and Wembley took centre stage last weekend however, the pensioner was undeterred and managed to get to space and back in one piece.

Branson’s latest adventure was given kudos by MMA star and Dublin-native Conor McGregor who is currently recovering from leg surgery following a horrific injury during his recent defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning and it is believed the wealthy Irishman will be on crutches for at least six weeks.

In a post on Instagram McGregor wrote: “To the space pioneer who showed what determination and imagination can do! I applaud you my friend!”

This is not Branson’s first rodeo as far as the idea of travelling to space is concerned as he previously floated the idea back in 2004 but was unable to give it a rattle. Now done and duted, the founder of Virgin Atlantic hints that it was a satisfying experience.

“I have dreamt of this moment since I was a kid, but honestly nothing can prepare you for the view of Earth from space. The whole thing was just magical.” he said after his trip to outer space.

McGregor could be joining Branson in the billionaire’s stable very soon as it is believed the accomplished fighter will join an elite group of sports stars which includes Tiger Woods and Cristiano Ronaldo and become one of the richest men in sport.
