Conor McGregor gives further clue to what 'December 14th' tweet was about as he teases UFC fight for 2019

Conor McGregor is teasing fans again that he might be stepping into the ring in 2019.

The Crumlin man, who earmarked the date December 14th last month, posted a cryptic happy birthday message to UFC fighter Frankie Edgar saying "see you in December".

The 31-year-old also said he'd donate the purse to charity if the bout goes ahead.

The American fighter previously confirmed the pair were in talks to make a fight happen before the end of the year.

The 38-year-old told his followers he had "said yes already" and called on McGregor and Dana White to "make it happen".

The social media exchange came after comments by Edgar, insisting he'd fight McGregor at any weight division.

He told MMA Weekly: “I’ll fight Conor at any weight class. We can do 55, 70, he's gonna be bigger than me regardless of what weight we fight at.

“He’s been saying he wants to fight me. I’m hearing he wants to fight me. And he has the control.

"I don’t know if the UFC is into it, but ultimately I believe Conor has the choice. If he really wants to fight me, we’ll fight.”

And just last August, McGregor revealed he was interested in fighting Edgar in an explosive interview with ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

He said: "Frankie Edgar is also up there because he has similarities to Khabib, he runs on the back foot and shoots on the single leg.

"Frankie has been very respectful, he said he wanted to tell his grandkids he fought Conor McGregor one day.

"There are so many bouts for me but it doesn't matter, it's about getting back in and being who I am, not a shell of myself, not half-committed."
