Conor McGregor fight: UFC boss Dana White explains plans for Notorious after Dustin Poirier

UFC President Dana White is keen to set up a title shot for Conor McGregor this year.

The Dublin fight star, 32, takes on Dustin Poirier on January 23 in Abu Dhabi and if he is victorious, his next scrap looks likely to be a title tilt.

"The way this kid is right now, mentally, physically, emotionally, this kid is on and ready to fight," White told ESPN.

"I would love to see him focus on what he can do here in the UFC, whether that's take another shot at the title against Khabib or fight for the title against somebody else if Khabib retires, and defend that title."

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in October but White is keen to tempt him back into action and set up a megabucks rematch against McGregor.

The UFC president added: "No matter what you think of Conor personally, Conor McGregor is not only one of the best in the world, but one of the best to ever do it.

"Right now, he's (McGregor) as focused as he's ever been.

"He's hitting me up and asking me questions about the layout of the arena, the walk-in, all these types of things that he's interested in knowing about right now. He's all in on this thing.

"I don't know if this is going to be the same Conor after the Poirier fight, but if this Conor sticks around for the next year, how do you not do Khabib vs. Conor again?"
