Conor McGregor fans split on latest training footage filmed at a busy beach

As ever, the comments section of a Conor McGregor Instagram post proved to be just as entertaining as any content produced by the man himself.

On this occasion, followers debated how impressive his latest training footage was with opinions seemingly split right down the middle between the true believers and sceptics.

The setting was certainly eye-catching as rather than a dreary old gym, the 33-year-old worked up a sweat by a radiant-looking beach surrounded by onlookers who settled in and enjoyed the free show.

In the short clip shared online, he walloped his trainer's boxing pad repeatedly with a trademark left hook.

He captioned the post: "Tasty's at the beach."

Speaking of sun, those followers with a more sunny-side up disposition towards life lauded the clip for showcasing a return to his wider stance and bouncy, light footwork that was a core part of what made him such a devastating force on his way up to becoming the UFC's featherweight and lightweight champion.

One wrote: "That left is something serious."

Someone who definitely knows what he's talking about is fellow UFC legend Urijah Faber. He liked what he saw as he added: "Corkscrew overhand (fire emoji)."

But at the same time there were plenty of naysayers who chided McGregor for only working the same telegraphed shot rather than putting a range of combinations together.

One person said: "Too stiff and too slow, the golden days are over."

While another added: "Bro just spamming slow left hands."

Lastly, another fan asked: "When are we going to see some real technique?"

You can judge for yourself but while he does appear to be slowly on the way back to full fitness it has been a long, long time since we saw a complete performance from him in the octagon.

Sure, he easily knocked out Donald Cerrone after 40 seconds in January 2020 but the veteran American (who always had a reputation for freezing on the big occasions) has since admitted that he 'didn't want to be there' as he barely threw a strike before succumbing to an early onslaught.

One has to go back all the way to November 2016 when McGregor dismantled Eddie Alvarez for the most recent example of him outclassing another top-tier opponent.

Since then it's been really noticeable that he's fallen in love with his boxing too much and become far too one-dimensional.

If he is to silence the doubters once and for all, he surely has to get back to utilising a complete kicking and grappling game (if his body allows him to).
