Conor McGregor is set to make a shock return to the octagon at the White House next year, according to Bare Knuckle FC’s Dave Feldman.
The former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion has not fought since breaking his leg in a July 2021 rematch with Dustin Poirier, and still has two remaining fights on his contract.
The Irishman has now hinted that he would be keen to make his comeback at the White House after US President Donald Trump revealed his plans to host a bout earlier this month.
Feldman has now claimed that his return to the octagon could be imminent.
“He’s got two fights left on his contract. He’s got to get right,” he explained. “The whole world is waiting. Is he going to get in shape and fight?
“He told me in person, he whispered in my ear, he said, ‘I'm in the testing pool. I'm getting ready to make my comeback. I'm going to fight on that big card, then I'm going to have another fight, and then we can talk.’"
McGregor had been due to fight Michael Chandler in 2024, but pulled out of the fight with a toe injury.
He has previously hinted at his comeback on the White House card, saying last week: “It’s looking like I’m headed to the Oval Office again. That’s where I’m headed next.”
That statement followed an earlier X post, which read: “I’ve been chilling on my yachts the last four years. To return at the White House with my sniper accuracy would be a very intriguing offer and would bring me back in to focus on my return correctly.”
Trump revealed his plans to hold a UFC event at the White House at an Independence Day celebration in Iowa.
He reportedly hopes to welcome as many as 25,000 fans to the South Lawn: "Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White? We're going to have a UFC fight. We're going to have a UFC fight - think of this - on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there."
The plans were later confirmed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who wrote on X: “It’s going to be EPIC!”
Trump has a longstanding association with UFC. He hosted Randy Couture vs Pedro Rizzo at his Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 2001, and has appeared at events regularly since.
