Conor McGregor early favourite for Dustin Poirier trilogy fight as betting odds announced

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are set to go toe-to-toe in a tie-breaking trilogy fight this summer, with a July 10 showdown in the works.

After Poirier's incredible KO victory over the Dubliner in January, both fighters boast a win over the other - with McGregor pushing for a rematch following his loss.

And after the fighters enjoyed the down time following the UFC 257 bout, it's seemingly back to business as both parties are locked in negotiations with the UFC for the trilogy fight.

The fight has not yet been officially locked in, but confirmation on a UFC 264 main event is expected as early as this week.

And it's McGregor who will be the early favourite for the rematch, with Fanduel already offering odds as low as 2/5 for him to avenge the loss.

However, Poirier is no outsider and can be backed at around 9/8 for the planned Las Vegas fight.

Ahead of the fight, White described Poirier's decision to pursue the trilogy fight as 'smart'.

“That's smart. That's what he should do,” he said. “He should take the rematch, take that fight. It's a big fight for him.

“Kid's worked hard his whole life, his whole career to be in a position like this. That's the fight you take.

“We've been in positions like this before with others who have made the mistake of not taking that fight, and [it was the] biggest mistake of their lives.”
