Conor McGregor defends 'awful' first pitch at Chicago Cubs game

Conor McGregor has defended his 'awful' first pitch at the Chicago Cubs vs Minnesota Twins game on Tuesday night.

The UFC star was invited to Wrigley Field for the Cubs' match, but his first pitch for third baseman Patrick Wisdom was high and wide of the target, with fans describing it as 'hilariously awful'.

But McGregor claimed his pitch was the 'the most devastating' ever seen at the baseball park.

He told Marquee Sports Network : "The most devastating first pitch ever seen in the iconic Wrigley Field!

"Well the venom is there, the power is there. It's a little off accurate wise but you know, I'm on the one leg. You can see me base fully on the left leg that was just recently injured, but I'm happy with it and I'll take that on board.

"I don't think there was much power difference between mine and them out there. Just the accuracy is a little off, but I'm happy with it. It was either lob it friendly or aim to take him off his feet.

"If that was on target, we would have had a problem I'd say. I'm happy with mine, then the two people that threw out the pitch before, great experience."

The Dubliner added: "For me it just feels like one big Irish pub, we're like a field in the middle of it. With a nice clean well kept field in the middle.

"I love it here, I have to say. It's our first baseball game, to come here and see the Chicago Cubs at this iconic stadium. Very very happy with it. Very proud.

"I think the whole thing is very clean, I think the grass is well kept, I think the stadium is well kept. You know it's not a new stadium, this stadium has been around and it's seriously well kept."

McGregor is continuing to recover from the horror leg break he suffered against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy fight earlier this year.
