Conor McGregor declares he wants to return against ‘whoever the f*ck has that LW title’

The opponent pool seems plentiful as Conor McGregor continues to work toward a comeback to competition.

Like for much of his UFC tenure, McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has a target on his back – or at least it seems that way with the number of fighters who namedrop him on a regular basis.

Monday, McGregor made it a little clearer who we’d like to fight next when he revealed he plans to compete against the lightweight titleholder upon his return. He also reiterated “the trilogy unfinished,” likely referring to his lifetime series against rival Dustin Poirier, who holds two wins against McGregor.

“I’m facing whoever the fuck has that LW title next,” McGregor wrote in a tweet. “Deal with it. Take off your goggles and mark the trilogy ‘unfinished’. Deal with that too. The rest mentioned, after this. Deal. With. It”

McGregor, 33, has lost back-to-back fights – both against Poirier (28-6 MMA 21-6 UFC). In the latter fight, McGregor suffered a fight-ending leg injury and underwent surgery shortly thereafter.

While there is no timeline for his return, McGregor has frequently expressed interest in a fourth fight against Poirier when he’s able to. Poirier is currently scheduled to challenge champion Charles Oliveira in the Dec. 11 main event of UFC 269, but has expressed openness to another meeting with the Irishman – a sentiment UFC president Dana White has also shown interest in.
