Conor McGregor could rematch Khabib Nurmagomedov at Wembley, says Dana White

Conor McGregor’s rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov could land at Wembley Stadium, according to UFC president Dana White.

McGregor returned to the Octagon last weekend, knocking out veteran Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds, stoking speculation that a second bout against the Russian lightweight champion could happen in the near future.

The Irishman had previously claimed he wants to rematch Nurmagomedov in Moscow, after submitting in the fourth round of their first meeting in October 2018. However, White touted London as a likely destination.

“The rematch is not happening in Moscow – for many, many reasons,” White said. “It either goes to the UK, New York, Dallas or here.

“Vegas is always the best place but Khabib is not a big Vegas fan because of what happened last time.

“It could be Wembley Stadium, where they had 90,000 people for the Anthony Joshua fights, or Cardiff, where they have a roof on the stadium.”

Nurmagomedov stated he wouldn’t fight in Vegas again after his fight purse was initially withheld by the state commission, due to him provoking a post-fight brawl and attacking McGregor’s cornermen. He was subsequently fined $500,000 and given a backdated nine-month suspension.

McGregor, however, insisted the only place he would consider fighting in Europe, if Moscow is out of the question, is back home in Ireland.
