Conor McGregor continues to claim he is interested in buying Manchester United

Conor McGregor is continuing to claim that he is interested in buying Manchester United.

The UFC star took to social media on Tuesday night to claim he was 'thinking about' buying the club.

And he shared a number of United photos on his Instagram story on Wednesday, including one of a jersey sporting his Proper 12 Whiskey as a sponsor and another of him in a suit decorated with the club's first ever crest.

It comes as United announced their withdrawal from the controversial European Super League after Ed Woodward quit as the club's executive vice-chairman.

The Red Devils faced huge criticism from fans, politicians, players and club legends over their decision to help set up the new competition.

The European Super League saga has laid bare the huge schism between the values of United supporters and those of United's owners, the Glazer family.

McGregor opened up on his affiliation with United in an interview with Manchester United's official website earlier this year, recalling his memories of watching his compatriots Roy Keane and Denis Irwin with Sir Alex Ferguson in the dugout.

He said: “I was more a player than a watcher back then, but Manchester United was my team. It was only the other day I came across an old picture of myself wearing that infamous grey United jersey, which I bought with my [First Holy] Communion money at eight years of age.

“I see my son when I look at that photo. I’d love to know where it is now. A truly ‘Notorious’ football jersey!

“I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and people surrounded by United. Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality.

“Roy Keane was one of the best midfielders European football has ever seen. Opponents would be mentally beaten before they’d even stepped on to the pitch to face him.

“Then they had the don of football at the helm, the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. To have that much success over such a long period is remarkable and something I continue to aspire to.”
