Conor McGregor confirms return in wheelchair boxing fight against impressionist

Conor McGregor will return to action against impressionist Al Foran in a wheelchair boxing match in December.

The 33-year-old is recovering from the broken leg he suffered during a second consecutive defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

And he was initially due to take part in a wheelchair boxing match against Foran in September but was forced to withdraw on the advice of his doctor..

But McGregor has officially confirmed the fight is back on and he is in training to face Foran in a wheelchair boxing match in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association.

McGregor wrote on Twitter : "Today we start preparation for my wheelchair boxing match in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association!

"Real excited to get in and have some fun and bust the eyeball of the celebrity impersonator, Al Foran. Al you can be Pacino! Joe Pesci! Even big Tyson Fury! But you still just fat Al from Tallaght to me."

It was originally thought McGregor would make his return two months ago in Galway as part of the even hosted by comedian Stevo Timothy.

But it was later confirmed that McGregor's condition was not sufficient enough to take on the wheelchair challenge but he would look to reschedule the event upon his return to fitness.

And now with the fight confirmed, impressionist Foran will have a chance to meet his famous acting personality again in a ring duel.

McGregor was recently shown with a new lean physique as he planned the "greatest comeback in history" with two fights remaining on his UFC deal.

And he also posted a video to his fans on social media of his return to boxing training smashing the pads after reuniting with his former boxing coach Phil Sutcliffe Sr.

McGregor previously speculated he would be ready to return in a charity bout before the end of the year.

"I reckon late October at earliest but maybe November/December too," McGregor confirmed on social media earlier this year. "It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please!

"Hahaha quality! Give me time guys, I’m in. Just need to focus on this recovery for the next while first before I can commit to a date! Have some cool things planned for event tho."

McGregor has been linked with a number of opponents upon his full UFC return including a trilogy with Nate Diaz, Max Holloway and most recently Michael Chandler.

The Irish star has also fuelled speculation of a return to boxing after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.

He called out pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez before he was crowned undisputed super-middleweight champion with victory over Caleb Plant.

And the Mexican has now responded by ruling out the bout in brutal fashion with McGregor then posting a cryptic response on social media
