Conor McGregor claims he had a hangover for UFC loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor has claimed he had a hangover for his UFC bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The Notorious suffered defeat against the Russian in October 2018 and had been desperate for a rematch before announcing his retirement from MMA for the third time in four years last month.

It was announced earlier this week that Nurmagomedov will defend his lightweight belt against Justin Gaethje on October 24.

And UFC commentator Joe Rogan is clearly buzzing for the bout.

He posted on Instagram: "It would be impossible for me to be more excited about this fight.

"The return of the GOAT lightweight king (Nurmagomedov) vs his most dangerous challenger (Gaethje). I can't f****** wait."

McGregor was quick to respond to Rogan's post, writing: "Chill bro, I'd a hangover."

The Dubliner previously revealed how he was drinking during fight week ahead of the 2018 bout.

He said:  “I was drinking all the way through fight week last time (for Nurmagomedov).

“I just had this venom in me or something. I don't know why.”

It has been suggested that McGregor could come out of retirement to face the winner of the October bout, but Nurmagomedov has claimed he wants to take on Georges St-Pierre after Gaethje.

The lightweight champion commented on Rogan's post, saying: "October - Justin and April - GSP (Georges St-Pierre)."

The defence against Gaethje will be Nurmagomedov's first since the tragic death of his father Abdulmanap.

Nurmagomedov had been scheduled to take on Ferguson in April but the fight was cancelled due to coronavirus, with the champion stuck back in Moscow.

Since then he has been coming to terms with the loss of his father, but Dana White insists the fight with Gaethje will go ahead.

"It's been very rough on him," White told CNN Sports . "His father was a hero to him, he loved his father, they had a very close relationship and it was very hard on him.

"It's going to happen, tell you right here right now. That fight is going to happen."
