Conor McGregor challenges Floyd Mayweather - but there's a twist

Conor McGregor is never shy of calling out Floyd Mayweather - and he's done it again.

The former UFC champion took part in the Bottle Cap Challenge, the latest craze sweeping the internet.

The object is to remove the cap from a bottle with a roundhouse kick - and who better than the MMA superstar to give it a go?

Current champion Max Holloway was among the first to give it a go while Jason Statham also got involved.

And McGregor couldn't resist taking part, successfully unscrewing the cap with a spinning kick.

Then, after celebrating with his own Proper 12 whiskey, he tweeted: "Excellent job Jason Statham, I tip my cap to you. I’ll take it from here. I nominate Floyd Mayweather."

The boxing legend, giving his lack of kicking ability, is unlikely to take McGregor up on his offer.

Mayweather stopped in the Irishman in the 10th round of their fight - McGregor's debut - in Las Vegas in 2017.

It was the second richest fight in history and saw Mayweather retire for a second time.

He did return on New Year's Eve last year in a an exhibition fight against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa with Mayweather winning by first-round knockout.

McGregor meanwhile went on to fight UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov but lost by fourth-round submission.

He was later banned for six months for his part in the post-fight melee and later retired.

But in true McGregor style, he made an almost immediate U-turn and is expected to return to the Octagon later this year.
