Conor McGregor branded "a snitch" for comments about "drunk" Daniel Cormier

UFC star Conor McGregor has been labelled a "snitch" by commentator Chael Sonnen for his tweets aimed at Daniel Cormier.

A feud was sparked between McGregor and Cormier after 'DC' labelled McGregor's comments about Khabib Nurmagomedov's father as a "cry for help".

McGregor was infuriated by Cormier's claim, calling him a "fat mess" and criticising Cormier for drinking alcohol whilst on commentary duty for McGregor's trilogy fight with Poirier at UFC 264.

"It is a sackable offence for a commentator to be drunk at press work the day before commentating the big fight. Dreadful! Get it together. Belching in the mic at a press event and an all wtf. The day before commenting the big fight? Is this guy serious? Disgraceful," McGregor wrote.

The former UFC middleweight turned broadcaster Sonnen was unimpressed with McGregor's comments.

He refuted McGregor's claim that Cormier was drunk for his media appearance and labelled him a hypocrite for turning up to press conferences with a Proper 12 whisky bottle in front of him.

“From the standpoint of Mr. Entertainer, he’s now a snitch. Daniel did not show up to anything drunk, guys. Do not mistake that [but] let’s say he did. Conor said he did. Conor’s now a snitch. He rattled on him," Sonnen said.

"You tattled on one of the boys? Did he do anything wrong? Was he obnoxious? Was he unruly? No. Okay well how did you know? ‘I just know. I could smell it.’ Then you are a snitch. Why did you tattle on him?

"Particularly from the guy who’s in the business of selling alcohol and shows up at press conferences with a whisky right on the desk.”

McGregor has posted rants at the likes of Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov on social media since his UFC 264 loss to Dustin Poirier. Most of the tweets are deleted shortly after he posts them.

Cormier, who is also a former two weight UFC champion, doesn't have a problem with McGregor but thinks he needs to focus on his fights rather than what other are saying about him.

"“So McGregor, listen to me bud. Stop worrying about me. Don’t worry about Daniel Cormier," he said.

"Don’t worry about the things that I’m saying. Don’t worry about how I’m dressing and how I’m looking. Don’t do that. Worry about the dudes that keep beating your ass every time you go into the octagon.”

“The reality is, McGregor is a high-level fighter, but when I said it was a cry for help, I did it with no ill intent. This was just me saying, find some people that are willing to step up and say, ‘Hey man, let’s get everything right.’

"But the reality is, I don’t need to be friends with Conor McGregor. So I really don’t care what he says about me personally. I’m going to continue to do my job. And where he deserves praise, he’ll get praise. Where he deserves to be critiqued, he will get critiqued."
