Conor McGregor branded "a liar" ahead of UFC return against Donald Cerrone

Conor McGreogr and his coaching team have been branded "liars" ahead of the Irishman's UFC return.

The former two-weight world champion will fight for the first time in 15 months when he takes on Donald Cerrone later this month.

His last outing saw him choked out in four rounds by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor has since said he had a "horrendous" camp before his fight for the 155lb belt and insists he has made the necessary corrections this time.

But Nurmagomeodv's manager had dismissed his claims.

“Listen, his coaches before the fight (with Nurmagomedov) said, ‘He’s ready, he’s going to knock Khabib out inside three rounds, he’s never been in better shape,"Ali Abdelaziz told TMZ.

"And after that, they said they had a horrible camp, his food was like a balloon. They’re liars."

McGregor's chief coach John Kavanagh has claimed his star pupil is in the best shape of his life as he prepares for his third fight at welterweight.

Kavanagh told The Mac Life: "I think this is the best he's ever been and the reason I say that is his consistency over the last few months," he added.

"Theres a real return to smiling on the mat, enjoying it and having fun. It's a cliche but a happy fighter is a dangerous fighter and he seems really happy with his life and the environment we have here.

"I like how he's calling it a season and aiming for three fights in 2020. We can really plan the year and have progression in his training, peaking at the right time.

"It's more of a return to loving all aspects of it and making the training around the passion he had."

But Abdelaziz added: “He looks like a blew-out balloon. He’s a bodybuilder. That’s what I think. He’s getting no love from us.”
