Conor McGregor boxing news: Notorious accepts legend Oscar de la Hoya's challenge

Conor McGregor has responded to Oscar de la Hoya after the boxing legend claimed he's finish him in two rounds, despite being retired for over a decade retired.

The Dubliner took to Twitter to state his intentions to fight the 47-year-old when he returns to the boxing ring.

Despite being back active in the octagon, McGregor seemingly has one eye on boxing after fighting Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

After de la Hoya made the claim, McGregor responded, giving fans hope that the fantasy bout could well happen.

The promoter, who retired back in 2008, made the claim when asked in an interview how he'd fair against the Notorious one.

He feels that although McGregor has been successful in the cage, success in the boxing ring is a 'different story'.

"Oh, come on, brother," De La Hoya told CBS Sports' State of Combat podcast when asked how that fight would go.

"Two rounds. Because one thing about me, I went for the kill, always

"And look, Conor McGregor is - I love him in The Octagon. I respect him. I watch him all the time.

"But the boxing ring is a whole different story. It's a whole different story."
