Conor McGregor backed to return to boxing despite Dustin Poirier KO

Conor McGregor still has a future in boxing according to his sparring partner Dylan Moran.

The Irishman made his name in the UFC but swapped the Octagon for the ring back in 2017 when he took on Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor was beaten in the Las Vegas showdown and has since returned to the world of MMA with mixed success.

The Notorious One is now looking to avenge his recent defeat to Dustin Poirier ahead of their match at UFC 264.

But Moran, who has won 15 of his 16 fight, insists McGregor "has given it to me as much as anyone" during sparring and believes he can still mix it in the boxing world.

He told Sky Sports : "There are plenty of years left in Conor. Wherever the big fights are at. You can see by the rematch with Dustin that he doesn't shy away from challenges.

"If the right challenge is put to him, he will take it on board.

"I wouldn't be surprised to see Conor back in the boxing ring, for sure.

"I've been in there with him at Irish level, European level and world level. Conor has given it to me as much as anyone. That speaks for itself.

"When you are a person of Conor's notes, you will have naysayers and doubters of the highest degree. Even if his boxing was the best, people would say it's useless.

"I've sparred him. I've been in there with him, and I'm a boxer. So my opinion is one to listen to."

McGregor has been linked with a fight against Jake Paul, who beat former UFC star Ben Askren on Saturday.
