Conor McGregor arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault in Corsica

Conor McGregor has been arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault and alleged indecent exposure in Corsica.

The former two-weight UFC champion has been in the region preparing for a 180km voyage which was to raise awareness of water safety.

He was due to start the trip today alongside Princess Charlene of Monaco but was forced to withdraw.

According to the AFP news agency, McGregor was arrested and taken into custody following an alleged incident.

A statement from the prosecutor read: "Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor [sic] was the subject of a hearing by the police."

A representative for McGregor told TMZ Sports :"Conor McGregor vigorously denies any accusations of misconduct.

"He has been interviewed and released."

McGregor has spent several weeks in the area as he prepared for the charity event.

He also took in the start of the Tour de France last month alongside the Princess and Prince Albert II.

McGregor has also been joined by hisfiancee Dee Devlin after the fighter proposed to his long-term sweetheart over the summer.

The Dubliner has not fought since he beat Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds in January.

His plans to fight three times this year were shattered by the coronavirus crisis and he retired in June for the third time in four years.

But he had hinted at a return this week when it emerged he is still in the USADA testing pool and was required to take a drug test while on his £3million yacht.
