Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi renew rivalry over Jake Paul fight

Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi have traded verbal blows in a renewed spat on social media with the American claiming the UFC star would be "light work".

McGregor and Malignaggi sparred as part of the Irishman's preparations for his mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather back in 2017.

But former world champion Malignaggi stormed out of the camp after footage was released which appeared to show him being knocked down by McGregor.

The New Yorker has always denied he was dropped and claimed McGregor manipulated the video.

And Malignaggi reignited the feud between the pair on social media, tweeting: "I agree with Jake Paul. Conor is light work" after YoUTube star Paul had criticised McGregor's stance and boxing technique in new training footage.

Former boxing star Malignaggi continued his jibe when asked if he could beat McGregor by a fan, swiftly replying: "He ain’t s***."

McGregor quickly fired back at his former sparring rival, writing alongside a picture of Malignaggi on the canvas from the session: "I left you like a little seesaw."

The pair duelled in a sparring session which involved a disputed knockdown with the 41-year-old storming out of his counterpart's camp after a heated confrontation.

Malignaggi has frequently called out McGregor since that battle after the Irishman released a series of photos to mock the star publically since.

And the retired fighter believes he has what it takes to now beat McGregor in the boxing ring after his defeats to Poirier in the UFC.

"I mean, I wouldn't put it past anything but I don't think Conor McGregor is ever going to want to fight me," Malignaggi previously told SiriusXMBoxing.

"The only way that I'd fight Conor McGregor is if it's winner-takes-all at this point. I wouldn't fight Conor McGregor, there wouldn't be any kind of negotiations it's either winner-takes-all or we don't fight.

"At this point he's got everybody convinced he's better and there's more than enough money in the pot. He makes more money fighting me than anybody else other than maybe Jake Paul.

"So, I don't see him taking that kind of deal, so there's probably not going to be a fight."

Malignaggi is one of many fighters to have called for a clash with McGregor after his defeat by Mayweather.

YouTube star Paul believes he has what it takes to defeat the UFC star in a crossover bout and has frequently asked for the clash.

McGregor is planning a UFC revival upon his return from injury having lost three of his last four fights in MMA since facing Mayweather.
