Conor McGregor almost 10lb under weight ahead of Donald Cerrone fight

Conor McGregor has revealed he is closer to the lightweight limit than the welterweight maximum ahead of his return against Donald Cerrone.

The former two-weight world champion makes his return to the Octagon at UFC 246 next weekend following a 15-month hiatus.

McGregor opted to face Cerrone - a 50-fight veteran - at welterweight rather than lightweight, but seven days out from the fight is weighing only 160lb.

"I’m underweight right now," he told ESPN. "I’m underweight. I’d say [I’m weighing] 160lbs and a bit.

"I know I could have [made Cerrone cut down to lightweight] but I just don’t think he looks well at 155lb. He does not look well at 155lb, he’s a 170lb fighter.

"I don’t care. No. I beat him any bleeding way. I beat him at any weight; I beat him if I have the flu, so I don’t need that.

“I just want to focus on my training and keep me sharp. You know, I don’t have to cut and then build and then cut. I’m happy where I’m at."

McGregor is planning to fight three times this year and is open to title shots in both weight divisions.

And after being choked out by Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018, the Dubliner insists he has unfinished business at lightweight.

"I'm not done at 155,” he added. "No way. I could make 155 for this fight no problem.

"But I just want to go in fresh as it is. Let the fight play as it is and then open up all my options."

McGregor has endured a controversial time on the sidelines after he was fined for punching a man in a Dublin pub last year.

He also knocked a phone out of a fan's hand in Miami but appears to have rededicated himself to his sport in recent months.
