Conor Maynard reveals scary health ordeal that left him 'screaming in pain'

Conor Maynard has shared a worrying health update - (PA)

Conor Maynard has revealed that his recent silence on social media has been due to a serious health scare.

The Can’t Say No singer, 32, took to Instagram on Monday to update fans, sharing a worrying image of himself on a stretcher and another with a cannula in his arm.

Maynard explained he had been left “screaming in pain” due to a back injury, which he said had kept him “pretty quiet over the last few months.”

His update comes months after he promised to share his side of the story following claims by The Traitors star Charlotte Chiltern that he had fathered her baby daughter — a claim later disproven by a paternity test.

In his post, Maynard wrote: “So I thought I’d explain why I’ve been pretty quiet over the last few months, and why I released one song in May and then seemingly disappeared when the original plan was to post a string of songs for you guys.

“I posted earlier this year that I was experiencing issues with my back, and it has been quite the journey.”

He went on to confirm the problem was a bulging disc between his L5 and S1 vertebrae, which has caused intense nerve pain. After trying chiropractic treatment for several weeks with little improvement, he underwent epidural steroid injections to manage the condition.

“Some days I would feel better, but other days there was no change,” he said.

Then, last weekend, a sudden coughing fit triggered what he described as “the most intense pain” yet, shooting through his lower back and down his right leg.

“It completely made my legs buckle, but luckily I was standing next to my sofa so I had something soft to fall onto lol,” he added.

Unable to find any position that brought relief, Maynard said he began screaming in pain and lost the colour in his face. His girlfriend, panicking at the sight, called an ambulance.

Maynard explained that the ordeal has affected his life “in so many ways,” from looking after his new puppy to simply filming content for fans. He admitted that holding up a camera had become “nearly impossible” due to the injury.

He also said the condition had taken him away from hobbies he loves, such as football and padel.

“The annoying thing about this kind of injury is that there isn’t much that can be done immediately,” he continued. “You just have to try to manage the pain and focus on long-term recovery.

“Right now it’s looking like surgery is the only option — but obviously that’s kind of scary lol.”

He signed off by thanking his 2.8 million followers for their support and said he’s still open to suggestions.

“Tips are still always welcome,” he wrote. “Hoping I’m back to fighting fit asap and doing the things I love, releasing music for all of you as soon as I can.”
