Conor Masterson ready to put Liverpool lessons into practice with QPR move

Former Liverpool defender Conor Masterson has joined QPR on a free transfer.

The Irishman left the Reds upon the expiry of his contract this summer, ending a seven-year association with the Merseyside club in the process.

And, though he failed to make a first-team appearance at Anfield, Masterson believes he learned lessons that will stand him in good stead at Loftus Road.

“To sign for QPR is an honour and a privilege and I can’t wait to get started,” he told the club's official website.

“I learnt so much during my time with Liverpool, had some unbelievable experiences and I think that will carry through into QPR.”

Masterson joined Liverpool from Lucan United in his homeland at the age of just 13, and progressed through the club’s academy before reaching the fringes of the senior squad.

The closest the 20-year-old came to a full debut was appearances on the bench against Exeter in the FA Cup and Everton in the Premier League.

However, QPR boss Mark Warburton believes he has landed a player with huge potential ahead of the new season.

He said: “I have watched Conor’s progress and he is another young player with a lot of potential in him.

“What he will be looking to do is come in, bed himself into the dressing room and challenge for a place in the team.

“I want the pathway for young players here to be clear.

“If they are good enough, I’ll play them – I don’t care if they are 17 or 37, it’s about being good enough and having that desire to play for QPR.”
