Conor Lamb sworn in as House member

WASHINGTON _ Democrat Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania took his oath of office as a member of the House on Thursday evening.

"The essential truth of our situation is, we are all in this together. We need solidarity with each other. We need universal programs and aspirations. And we need to honor the service of our fellow citizens. I will do my level best to reach out, to find common ground, and to help this great American institution deliver the results we need and deserve," Lamb said on the floor after being sworn in.

Lamb succeeds Republican Tim Murphy, who resigned from the House on Oct. 21.

The House now has 237 Republicans and 193 Democrats. There are five vacancies: Texas 27th (Republican Blake Farenthold), New York 25th (Democrat Louise Slaughter), Ohio 12th (Republican Pat Tiberi), Arizona 8th (Republican Trent Franks) and Michigan 13th (Democrat John Conyers Jr.).
