Conor Bradley on why he & Liverpool wanted Bolton Wanderers loan & discusses Sheffield Wednesday

Conor Bradley says the style of play at Bolton Wanderers was the one of the main reasons he chose the loan move from Liverpool for this season and is feeling settled at the League One club after a great start to the season.

The teenager is spending the season on loan at the Whites from the Premier League side. He has impressed hugely in his early weeks at his new club.

He has scored twice for Wanderers so far this season. The latest was the winner against Morecambe in midweek.

The wing-back revealed that the style of play at Wanderers was one of the main reasons why he wanted to move to the University of Bolton Stadium. It mimics the way Jurgen Klopp's side play and believes he is now settled at his loan club, believing his international exploits with Northern Ireland have helped him do so.

He said: “I love it. We played a similar way to the one at Liverpool. Quite attacking, free-flowing, playing the ball out from the back, so I have enjoyed it so far.

“It was one of the main reasons I came here. Liverpool wanted me to play somewhere similar to them, helping my development, so that’s why I picked Bolton, really.

“I don’t really model myself on anyone. I try and focus on myself. Obviously when I am at Liverpool I watch Trent’s (Alexander-Arnold) game and try to put them into mine but I am my own player and I want to carry on working hard.

“It was definitely difficult to start because it was my first loan, so it was a case of coming into a new changing room, meeting new people, trying to get along with them as best as I can. It was always going to be difficult but I have loved it so far and I just want to keep it going now.

“It has surprised me a little bit how well it has gone but the gaffer told me I was going to get chances when I spoke to him before. I knew there would be competition and that makes you do better. It is healthy for the whole team.

“That was part of the reason I came here, to be honest, it is still local to Liverpool so I can pop back if ever I need anything. They are happy with how things have gone, buzzing for me, but they want me to keep going.

“Probably the biggest atmosphere I played in was against Switzerland, the whole place was rocking because we’d saved a penalty. We were a big underdog but that really got you going.

“Those international games have helped. When I came here one of the things I wanted to improve on was playing in front of crowds.

“I’d had a bit of that playing for Northern Ireland but doing it every week here is great.

Wanderers take on Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow afternoon at the University of Bolton Stadium. It will pit two sides with aspirations of being at the top end of the table this campaign.

It is a big encounter and Bradley is under no illusions of the task facing them with taking on the Owls. But Wanderers are confident ahead of the clash with the momentum they have.

He said: “I can’t wait for it. We all know it will be a difficult game because Sheffield Wednesday are a good side.

“It’ll be a challenge playing in front of lots of fans, lots of away fans as well, but I am eager to do that.

“We know it will be tough against them but we’re all confident, we’re up for it, and we want to keep that momentum we have got now.”
