Steven Gerrard is neither concerned nor confident Connor Goldson will sign a new Rangers contract.
But he's certain he wants the influential defender to stay.
The 28-year-old centre-back is yet to agree fresh terms as his current deal ticks down to expiration next summer.
Ahead of Thursday night's Europa League win over Brondby, Goldson declared his desire to remain in Glasgow but that an extension must also be right for his family.
Gerrard insists he knows the player's value but, for a manager, contract renewals come second to results on the pitch, and that's why he's not giving too much thought to the situation for now.
But he did issue the Englishman a reminder as to where he can find Rangers ' sporting director Ross Wilson.
“I’m not concerned, I’m not confident,” Gerrard said. “I’m not really over-thinking about it.
“Connor’s a big boy. He’s a man. Ross Wilson’s office is right next door to mine.
“Connor knows what I think of him from a personal point of view and how much I want him to stay here. At the same time, we have to concentrate on the football so it’s important Connor keeps playing the way he is.
“I thought he was magnificent again last night. He was my player of the year last year and I think for me he’s gotten more consistent over his time at Rangers.
“He’s a valuable player for me and the club.”
But Gerrard does hope the situation can be resolved sooner rather than later, given the apparent willingness from both parties to find a resolution.
“Hopefully we can get a solution in terms of getting him tied up. I can’t really go any further in terms of letting you know how much I want it to happen and how much I want him to stay.
“But at the end of the day I’m not Connor and I don’t know what he wants. I’m not the club and I don’t do bank balances and numbers.
“So I can only tell both parties how much I want it to happen and then it’s down to other people to try and find a solution.”
