Connor Goldson's philosophical Rangers approach to Steven Gerrard training tweaks as he targets squad improvement

Connor Goldson showed his philosophical side as he praised Steven Gerrard for thinking ahead with tactical tweaks in training.

Rangers haven't had much opportunity to get working on the training pitch this season with games coming thick and fast in a condensed campaign.

But a week between games against Celtic and Aberdeen allowed Gerrard and his coaching staff to get down to work on really drilling the players ahead of the second half of the campaign.

In recent weeks there's been a suggestion that teams are focusing on the likes of James Tavernier and Borna Barisic because they know how dangerous the Ibrox men are with their full backs.

Gerrard dismissed that as being disrespectful to his fellow coaches and believes they've always been targeted while Goldson admits they have been making some adjustments.

And he showed some deeper thinking with a belief it's better to fix things from a winning position rather than wait for things to fall apart.

He said: "The Old Firm win was a big three points but you go from that to Aberdeen away, which is probably the second-toughest game of the season.

"Those and Hibs are probably the toughest away grounds to go to in this league, so we know what performance and intensity is needed to get us the three points.

"We've been working hard in training this week, making little tweaks and we want to improve when things are going well.

"We spoke about it this week. It's better to fix the roof when the sun's shining.

"Hopefully we don't have to wait for a blip and we haven't had to wait for a loss to work and improve.

"We worked all this week on adjustments we can make. We've watched clips of the last few games on how we can improve as a team and hopefully that leads us well into the next few games."
