Connor Goldson on the James Tavernier 'avoid Duffy' pep talk which inspired Rangers opener

Connor Goldson has spoken about the quick chat with James Tavernier which helped inspire Rangers' opening goal against Celtic.

Goldson netted twice as Steven Gerrard's side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at Parkhead.

The Ibrox side took the lead when the big defender met James Tavernier's free-kick and headed past Vasilis Barkas in the Celtic goal.

Goldson says he told the Rangers captain as he was setting the free-kick up to avoid Celtic defender Shane Duffy with his cross, and aim the ball at the front post where he'd be lurking.

And it's fair to say it worked a treat for the league leaders.

When asked if it was a move he'd worked on in training, Goldson told Rangers TV: "It wasn't. I had a word with Tav as he was setting up. I told him to get it over the first man's head and I was going to go front post.

"I know big Duffy from Brighton and I said just keep it away from him. I saw he was at the back post. I told him to put it in between Ajer and the forward and luckily it worked. I was onside and, yeah I was delighted."

Goldson says he was thrilled to net a double in the Old Firm victory, but admits it isn't quite the same without supporters in the ground.

He added: "Even when I scored the goals I didn't really know what to do. No fans, no cameras. I ran over to that far corner and there was literally nothing there so I just turned back around.

"Delighted but it's not the same without the fans so hopefully we see them again soon."
