Connor Goldson insists Rangers stars are 'hurt' by Black Lives Matter reaction as he issues fresh social media plea

Connor Goldson insists Rangers' stars have been left hurting by negative reactions to their support for Black Lives Matter.

Steven Gerrard 's side's decision to take the knee in solidarity with the anti-racism movement before Veolia Trophy wins over Lyon and Nice was met with a level of opposition on social media.

The gesture led to a backlash from some and the defender has told fans that the players read and are upset by the reaction.

Goldson posted a screenshot of a reply to his earlier Instagram post, in which a user said the defender should "leave our club ASAP".

The comment prompted an emotional reply from the 27-year-old former Brighton centre-back.

He wrote: "I'm not doing this for attention, or for anyone to feel sorry for me.

"But these are fans of OUR club. I know it's a minority and I'm not suggesting otherwise, however as a majority who stand by us we need to make a stand to be heard.

"What I will say is players see these comments and they hurt us!"

The post followed Goldson's earlier statement on Sunday, in which he branded the unsavoury replies to an official Rangers Twitter post that showed squad members taking the knee as "disgusting".

He wrote: "Let’s try again. The hate and ignorance in the comments of the last picture were disgusting but not surprising. This isn’t about politics it’s about equality!!! We all need educating, myself included!"

The post was backed by Goldson's team-mate Joe Aribo, as he replied: "Leading the way big bro".
