Connor Goldson causes Rangers ructions as irate fans have contract rebel in their crosshairs - Hotline

Straight-shooting Connor Goldson playing the hunger games hasn’t cut it with Rangers supporters who have been starved of cup success for more than a decade.

The Gers defender is in the firing line for suggesting players had lost their hunger after being hammered by Hibs in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

It’s not just Goldson who made a meal of it though as punters got the knives – and forks – out.

Stuart McLeod emailed; “After listening to Goldson it appears this squad of players thought a title win was all that was required for hero status.

“The 55 is history and this now becomes the most important season in our history.

“Imagine a player with performances as abject's as Goldson's have been calling other players out."

Martin Leggat, via email, said: “Wow, what a statement .

“One major trophy in how many years and they have lost their hunger.”

Brian McColligan emailed: “The Rangers juggernaut has now become a tuk tuk. Goldson actually saying the game was done at half time was unbelievable.”

New boss Gio van Bronckhorst has walked in to the aftermath but departed Steven Gerrard hasn’t escaped the critics.

Jimmy Neil, Glasgow, said: “GVB must have been mortified at the woeful display once again from our defence on Sunday.

“I'm sure he'll also be scratching his head as to why £25 million Nathan Patterson has spent most of the season warming the bench.

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Gio has problems from the very beginning. That team just didn’t want to play, it looks like they are reeling with Stevie G leaving and confidence has gone.”

Robert McNab emailed: “I’m a disappointed and angry Gers fan and would like someone at Rangers to tell me why we forfeited our place in the cup?

“Gio in but can’t be convinced to take the team, B Team manager clearly not up to the job, Morelos and Tavernier a disgrace.

“Finally to “Always a Ger”, I take it he means always a GERrard. The guy has less loyalty than Celtic Park fans with ten minutes to go in a match.”

Barriemore Barlow, Dunbartonshire, said: “It looked weird seeing Gerrard so animated on the touchline for another team. He looks so delighted to be free of Rangers.”

Stephen Johnstone Ardentinny , said: “Not a Gio grandy start for van Bronckhorst at Rangers.

Did Steve Gerrad see the writing was on the wall and that's why he jumped ship?”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “Gerrard left at the right time as he knew his time was up at Rangers.

“He’s left them in millions of pounds worth of debt and out of the League Cup.”

Meanwhile rival fans feasted.

Ian Gallagher, Kirkintilloch, said: “You have to give credit to all the Rangers fans who insisted that the club's management changeover would be seamless and nothing would change. They were spot on as they still cannot achieve cup success.

Brian Stavert. Dumbarton, said: “Well done Van Bronckhorst. I’m here to win things, he said. One game, one trophy down. Come on the Hibees, great day out at Hampden. The away end was like a library.”

And John Scott, Grassmoor , said: “Well well well Daily Record. Your boys took a hell of a beating. All bar Steven Mair backed the Rangers to win at Hampden, but the Hibees Persevered and booked an all green Christmas party back in Mount Florida in a few weeks time. Oooh too, ooh too be, ooh to be a Hibbie.”

Ah well, you fly with the crows…

Talking about flapping, Dons fan Ian Alan, Linlithgow , said: “How much further down the table do we need to go before the Aberdeen Board wakens up?

“We're heading for a relegation battle sooner rather than later and we have a drubbing by Celtic to look forward to next weekend.”

Finally, James Hope , via email, said: “As Celtic are playing Hibs, wouldn’t it be a nice idea if it was called the Bertie Auld Final seeing as how wee Bertie played for both clubs? It would be a fitting tribute to the wee man.”

The Auld Cup Final has a nice ring to it.
