Connie Nielsen had to wear a costume that "weighed 400 pounds" for her role in new TV series Robin Hood.

The 60-year-old actress plays Eleanor of Aquitaine in the new epic drama about the English folklore hero and she has revealed that the gown and hair she had to wear for her role in the Middle Ages-set series took a physical toll.

Speaking at the London screening of MGM+’s Robin Hood on Tuesday night (28.10.25), she said: "That costume weighed 400 pounds, and the hair was another 200 pounds - it was so warm on those stages it became a moment of forgetting how your body feels."

Connie stars in the series alongside Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Jack Patten as Robin Hood, Lauren McQueen as Marian and Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon among other castmates.

The series was filmed in Serbia and Connie has praised writers and executive producers John Glenn and Jonathan English for making the show historically accurate as well as appearing grandiose on screen.

She said: "I had no idea about the actual period that it was placed in and I had no idea just how much work they had done to make it historically interesting.

“I’m very excited for people to see it, I just know they’re going to really love it. I saw the first episode – and I never watch anything I do – but I saw the first episode in Los Angeles last week and it was spectacular.

“It’s very hard for a TV sized project to be screened on the big screen, so I think everyone was a little nervous about what it would look like, would it translate well, and it did. It was incredible. It looked like a film, it looked amazing."

Connie's co-star Sean, 66, brought all his experience of horse riding and sword fighting from his previous performances in Game of Thrones, Sharpe and The Lord of the Rings to his role as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

He said: "It’s always a joy to ride horses in anything really and I was just on a horse all day on set.

"I’ve rode a few horses in me time and he was a good one.

"We then had the sword fighting; me and Jack had some great fights. I love that aspect to [the job]."

Robin Hood will premiere exclusively on MGM+ on 2 November 2025.
