Construction is progressing on the Kesennuma Bay bridge, connecting the north and south sides of Kesennuma Bay in Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. The bridge is a part of the Sanriku Expressway, which was created after the Great East Japan Earthquake as a part of its "restoration road." The Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry's Tohoku region maintenance bureau announced on Friday that it aims to finish the bridge by the end of the year.
The bridge is supported by arches and suspension cables and is 1,344 meters in length, making it the longest suspension bridge in the Tohoku region. The Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi bridge, which has a length of 356 meters and opened in the spring of last year, is located nearby.
"Enjoy the two bridges while experiencing the salt air," said a person in charge of a tourism chapter.
