AHMEDABAD: The state unit of the Congress will hold a dharna outside the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Ahmedabad on Monday to protest against the ED summoning the party's president, Sonia Gandhi, and party leader Rahul Gandhi.
The two leaders have been issued summons and have been asked to appear before ED officials on Monday in connection with the National Herald case.
Speaking to reporters in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera, said: "National Herald was passing through a financial crisis, so from 2002 to 2011, the Congress party used Rs 90 crore fund for the payment of salaries of employees, retired employees, electricity bills, and taxes, which the BJP and its associates and followers are terming as an offence."
He added: "Even the Election Commission has given a clean chit."
Allegations against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are baseless and the ED action is nothing but political vendetta by the ruling party, he said.
The party's state unit president Jagdish Thakor said that on Monday party leaders and workers will protest outside the ED office in Memnagar at 10am.
