Congress protests at Collectorates against fuel price hike

Congress leaders and activists held demonstrations in front of the Collectorates across the State against the rising fuel prices as a part of the call given by the All India Congress.

At Gadwal the protest was led by AICC Secretary, A. Sampath Kumar while in Rangareddy district DCC president, Challa Narsimha Reddy led it. In Karimnagar and Warangal districts the cadre led by the presidents Komatireddy Narender Reddy and Nayini Narsimha Reddy respectively jumped over the gates despite the police resisting it.

In Kamareddy district, former Minister Shabbir Ali participated along with DCC President Kailas Srinivas and other leaders raising slogans against the Central and State governments. He said both the BJP and TRS have crossed all limits of shame. “Instead of finding solutions to help the people, they are finding new excuses to blame others for the present crisis," he said.

He said when the price of crude oil was $108.05 per barrel on May 26, 2014, it used to cost just ₹714 to fill the tank of a scooter while it is costing ₹1,038 though the crude oil cost was just $99.42 per barrel. He also said that Telangana was among the States collecting the highest Value Added Tax on petrol and diesel with a litre of petrol in Hyderabad costing ₹ Rs. 119.49 while the diesel prices have increased to ₹105.49 per litre.

Telangana Congress president, A. Revanth Reddy held a Zoom meeting with all the senior leaders to discuss the party’s protest on Thursday at Vidyut Soudha on the hiked power charges and the Civil Supplies office against the government’s attitude on paddy procurement.

He called upon the cadre to protest even on roads of the police tries to stop them and also continue the protests at the police stations. He said that the party would continue its agitation on behalf of the people against the Centre and the State governments till the fuel prices and power charges were decreased apart from ensuring that the Telangana government procures the last grain of paddy this season.

Mr. Reddy said the party line was clear and it was the responsibility of the state and central governments to procure paddy irrespective of the issues they are raising to escape from their responsibility.

He said senior leader Rahul Gandhi has been invited to the party’s protest meeting at Warangal at the end of this month. Apart from addressing the meeting, he would also meet all the DCC presidents. TPCC working presidents, Mahesh Kumar Goud, T. Jayaprakash Reddy, J. Geetha Reddy, Anjan Kumar Yadav and Mohd Azharuddin participated apart from Madhu Yaskhi Goud, Mallu Ravi; AICC Secretaries Sreenivas Krishnan and Bose Raju.
