'Congratulations Vieira'- Arsenal fans delighted as ex-captain is confirmed as new Crystal Palace manager

Arsenal fans have reacted positively after seeing Patrick Vieira being confirmed as new Crystal Palace manager earlier today.

Vieira, 45, has signed a three-year contract with the Eagles just in time for preseason training which starts on Monday.

"I am really excited to have this opportunity to return to the Premier League, and manage this great football club [Crystal Palace], as we begin a new chapter together," said Vieira.

The 45-year-old was not the club's initial first choice, with Lucien Favre being the manager originally favoured by Steve Parish and the rest of the Palace board.

That deal collapsed though after weeks of talks between the Eagles and Favre's entourage.

And that was what caused Parish and co to turn towards giving Arsenal legend Vieira another chance in management, after his indifferent spell in charge of French club Nice.

Here is how a select number of Gunners fans reacted on social media after the Vieira to Palace move was confirmed.

@primeGHANA10 tweeted: "I hope Vieira has a successful spell with Palace. Good luck to this Arsenal Great."

@TheBigSize said: "I like Patrick Vieira so much I'll want him to be a massive success at crystal palace and possibly take over at Arsenal one day!"

@goodridgeAFC87 predicted: "Zaha to arsenal rumours will be huge this week with vieira now manager at palace watch."

@adamkeys_ explained: "Patrick Vieira has a big job rebuilding an ageing Crystal Palace team, but he has a good foundation from Roy Hodgson’s time. They have enough good players to succeed now, but he will need to be backed financially. Hopefully he does well and we see him back at Arsenal!"

@AFCPasha tweeted: "If the Arteta plan doesn’t work then in 3 years I would really like to see Vieira take charge or just have the invincibles on the board."

The Frenchman featured in a total of 396 times for Arsenal in all competitions including the famous invincible season of 2003-04.

Fans of the north London club will be keeping a close eye on Vieira's time with Palace, in anticipation to see if he will be good enough for the managerial vacancy at the Emirates Stadium in the future.
