Congratulations Kate, it’s a Labour win

It’s been suggested that if the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth in the days leading up to the election, this will benefit the Tories. But psychological research on “unconscious priming” suggests a different outcome. When people hear that “the Duchess is in labour” this will nudge them, unconsciously, towards voting Labour.

• While I would agree (Letters, 19 March) no self-respecting ale drinker would use a dimpled glass, I respectfully also suggest that nor would they use the meaningless, pretentious terms “craft” or “artisan” beer.

• Though flattered when my consultant called me a young lady when I was 59 (Letters, 21 March), I was less happy recently when I stepped off the surgery scales and my young (male) GP said: “Good girl.” I’m 71 this year.

• Surely the Kentucky Fried Chicken should be a serious contender for national bird (Letters, 21 March). One cannot miss its gaudy red and white colours and it breeds rapidly in a motorway or urban environment.
