'Congratulate Bristol Rovers' - Tranmere Rovers fans admit Gas were right over transfer flop

A Tranmere Rovers fan has admitted Bristol Rovers supporters were correct in their assessment of Stefan Payne.

Payne joined the Gas in August 2018 from Shrewsbury Town, but proved to be a transfer flop, making an offensive gesture at fans and at one point going AWOL before rejoining the Shrews on loan in January 2019.

The striker then left the Gas by mutual consent in the summer having scored four goals in 20 league appearances during his half-season at Rovers.

A day later, Payne joined Tranmere, offering a sly dig at the Gas after signing.

After four goals in his opening nine matches, fans of the Birkenhead side started to believe they had managed to pull one over on the Gas by getting Payne on a free.

Yet he has failed to score since, prompting one Tranmere fan to admit Rovers fans had been right about the striker.

They tweeted: "Suppose now is as good a time as any to congratulate the Bristol Rovers fans on being absolutely 100% correct in their analysis of Stefan Payne."

It prompted plenty of response from both Gasheads and Tranmere supporters.

Tranmere Rovers

Did it all for the Cookie: Lad doesn’t get a consistent run in the team to be judged? Few minutes here and there, what are we going to get?

Dave: Even when he was scoring vital goals for us people were giving him rubbish, the guy cant win! Works hard in a poor team and he isnt as bad as the reputation that followed him to us.

Kye: Waste of space.

Shaun: Considering minutes he's played, he's at least got us goals.

Karl: Prove them wrong, Stefan.

John Boon: Well I for one like him. Not given enough time to shine.

Bristol Rovers

Charlotte: Wrong attitude by far! I’m all for supporting every player playing in the club's strip but he tested that for me! I thought maybe it was just a bad fit at our club but maybe not!

Jason: We did warn you.

GB: It's okay, Shrewsbury told us and they were right.

Andy Howe: Can’t believe it’s taken so long.
