Khabib Nurmagomedov may not have signed with local football club FC Legia Dynamo despite a photo appearing to show him making a deal with the club's president.
Fans were surprised to see him seemingly confirming his next athletic endeavour, with the UFC legend having retired from the UFC last year after going 29-0 in his iconic career.
Legion Dynamo announced the signing on their Instagram account showing Khabib shaking the hand of a club official.
"A great battle awaits our Legion, for which we need great warriors. We are ready to welcome a Russian Premier League team together with Khabib Nurmagomedov," the club captioned the image.
But now the Russian's manager has declared that it is "fake news", telling ESPN MMA's Twitter page to remove a post indicating that he had signed for the club.
He repeatedly tweeted the phrase "fake news" to news outlets who has reported on the signing, indicating that the deal may not have happened.

Abdelaziz and Nurmagomedov have worked together for a number of years, with the Russian one of the crown jewels of Dominance MMA's roster.
The management company also takes care of pound-for-pound great and welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, as well as former double champion Henry Cejudo.
And the powerful MMA boss seems to think that Nurmagomedov isn't swapping his 4 oz gloves for football boots any time soon.
The UFC legend is a self-confessed hardcore football fan, and recently told a TV station that it would be his childhood dream to play professionally.
He told Match TV : “To play football on a professional level is a childhood dream. Of course, I have such a wish. Football is the king of sports after all.
“Who haven’t I discussed this with! I’ve spoken even with the UEFA president Aleskandr Ceferin, with the owner of PSG, yes and even with Cristiano Ronaldo.”
Nurmagomedov has been offered a number of lucrative comeback bouts, and promotional boss Dana White refused to accept his retirement until earlier this year, despite him announcing it in October.
And at the start of the year he was offered a massive $100million to make his boxing debut in an exhibition bout with 50-0 legend Floyd Mayweather.
But having retired from MMA on his mother's request, he turned down the incredible offer, and Mayweather ended up taking on YouTube star Logan Paul.
"I don't want to make the boxing community upset with me," Nurmagomedov joked on Mike Tyson's Hot Boxin' podcast.
"Of course money makes sense too, but I never fight for money - money is good, but most of the time it is bad.
"Money brings you to the situation that you have never been, and you don't know how to act when you have so much money.
"It is a little bit dangerous. In this business, I don't come to make money. I come here for legacy."
The legendary fighter has now taken up coaching, where he works with a number of top fighters including his cousin Usman Nurmagomedov.
