Police sparked confusion among some locals after unveiling new signs that were being rolled out on an Edinburgh beach for safety reasons.
Edinburgh Police Division shared images of new "safety signage" being erected on Portobello Beach this week - though, not everyone is happy about it.
The new numbered signs are designed to help emergency services locate you, ranging from Pipe Lane to the end of the promenade at Joppa Road.
The division explained: "Police Scotland is working with The City of Edinburgh Council and Maritime and Coastguard Agency to help make Portobello Beach safer for all.
"During the week commencing the 29th March, the Council will install new numbered signs on the top of the existing groyne beach defences at Portobello Beach.
"In an emergency, direct experience tells us roads signs cannot be easily seen from the beach so the new signs will be much more visible, improving safety. They measure approx. 600mm high and 450mm wide.
"Numbered 1 to 6, the emergency services can use these numbered signs to plot your location in an emergency (see map)."
While some locals support the initiative, others were left baffled, with one person writing: "This must be an early April Fool’s..."

"What a waste of time and money", added another.
One said: "Be better off at Cramond and giving the idiots that keep needing rescued a fine and send it straight to RNLI. Complete waste of a valuable resource."
But, elsewhere, people were glad to see the new safety measures being introduced.
"Great idea", one resident said.
Added another: "This is a fab idea."
