Confused elderly couple lost on 40-minute car journey pulled over by police 15 hours later

A confused elderly couple who got lost on a 40-minute car journey were finally pulled over by police after driving for 15 HOURS.

The un-named driver aged 96 and 90-year-old passenger set off from their home in Knaresborough, N Yorks, at 2pm on Sunday.

They planned to drive 20 miles to a local caravan dealership.

However, the pair got lost and were stopped by police at 4.40am on Monday on the A168 near Thirsk, N Yorks, having driven through the night.

Police thought they had pulled a drink-driver.

They had been alerted by other motorists complaining that the car was being driven at just 20mph and was 'all over the place' on a main road.

North Yorkshire Police released details of the bizarre 'chase' after they stopped the pair who were 'lost and confused' and driving on a grass verge.

Police took them home and advised them to surrender their licenses.

A statement from North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group said: "Obviously we took them home.

"We submitted forms to DVLA over medical concerns we have over the driver and very strongly advised him to stop driving for his and everyone else’s safety.

"It's a difficult conversation to have, but be honest with your relatives and friends you have medical concerns over. Tell them to stop and report them to DVLA."
