Confused baby answers to 'Alexa' instead of her name - and people think it's 'pathetic'

Now, here's a truly first world problem.

Little Caroline will perk up whenever her mum calls her name and, at seven months, has learnt to recognise it.

The only slight problem is, according to Caroline, her name is 'Alexa' and there's no great mystery why -  her parents use their voice-activated Amazon Echo device a lot.

In a short clip shared which appeared on Good Morning America, we can see Caroline looking at her Big Bird  book when her mum starts to call her (real) name.

After trying to get the tot's attention over and over by saying "Caroline" - but to no avail - her mum then changes tack.

As soon as she calls "Alexa", Caroline turns round and looks at her mum.

The clip has been viewed tens of thousand of times, and people are split in their feelings toward it.

Plenty of viewers thought it was sweet and funny, with some even suggesting it might be easier to change the youngster's name than convince her she's called "Caroline".

That said, a huge number of people thought it was anything BUT cute.

Many viewers even described it as "sad" and "pathetic".

"This is so sad. What has happened to people?" another social media user asked.

It even got likened to an episode of Black Mirror by one Twitter user.

Hopefully in time young Caroline will start to recognise her actual name...
