Confirmed West Ham team vs Newport: Ajeti makes debut, Wilshere and Fornals start

Summer signing Albian Ajeti makes his first start for West Ham in the second round Carabao Cup tie against Newport County at Rodney Parade.

The £8m recruit from Basel has been in the last two Premier League squads but hasn't got any minutes since his deadline day move. Now though, he is given the chance to impress in the number nine role with Sebastien Haller rested.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini confirmed after Saturday's victory against Watford at the weekend that Ajeti would be involved in some capacity against the League Two side.

Another player making his competitive debut for the club is goalkeeper Roberto, who replaces regular number one Lukasz Fabianski in between the sticks.

Aaron Cresswell starts at left back having been axed from the last two Premier League squads and on the other flank, Pablo Zableta makes his first start of the season and also captains the side.

Issa Diop has been named at centre back alongside Fabian Balbuena, who has found himself dropped for the past two Premier League games as Angelo Ogbonna gets a rest.

Carlos Sanchez starts in defensive midfield as Declan Rice gets the night off, Robert Snodgrass also starts in midfield, as does Jack Wilshere and Robert Snodgrass.

Pablo Fornals starts in midfield as well as he looks to find his feet in the English game.

That means there is ten changes in total and the only player who plays for the second time in four days is Diop, who played the full 90 during the 3-1 win over the Hornets.

West Ham: Roberto; Zabaleta, Diop, Balbuena, Cresswell; Sanchez, Snodgrass, Wilshere, Fornals; Antonio, Ajeti.
