Confirmed West Ham team vs Newcastle: No new faces as Moyes sticks with old guard

David Moyes has named his first starting eleven of the new Premier League campaign and it has a very familiar feeling to it from the back end of last season.

The only change from the final match of the 2020/2 campaign sees Ryan Fredericks start at right back ahead of Ben Johnson, who had started the final three matches of last season.

Moyes keeps faith with Issa Diop at centre back despite a very ropey final pre-season friendly in defeat to Bournemouth (then again, who didn't) and he partners Angelo Ogbonna, Hammer of the Year runner up last term.

The midfield trio has a familiar feel to it. Captain Mark Noble isn't punished for his outburst on Twitter last week after the sale of Grady Diangana as he starts alongside Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice in the heart of the midfield.

Soucek is deemed fit enough to start having missed the two international break friendlies for the Czech Republic having come into contact with a staff member who tested positive for Coronavirus.

Rice didn't play a single pre-season friendly for the Hammers this summe rbut he did feature twice for England in the international break.

The front three is the same as post-lockdown as well as Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Michail Antonio make up the attacking triumvate.

Sebastien Haller remains on the bench despite finding his goalscoring form during pre-season as Moyes sticks with Antonio leading the line after he netted eight goals post-lockdown to fire the Hammers to safety.

Lukasz Fabianski remains the undisputed number one and he starts between the sticks.

West Ham: Fabianski; Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek, Noble, Bowen, Fornals; Antonio

Subs: Randolph, Anderson, Balbuena, Lanzini, Haller, Yarmolenko.
