Confirmed West Ham team vs Brighton: Ben Johnson starts, Pablo Fornals axed in formation change

David Moyes has made one change to his starting eleven as West Ham take on Brighton at London Stadium and it is also a change in formation.

Ben Johnson starts a Premier League game for the first time this season as he comes in at left wing back. Pablo Fornals is the player to make way as he is not in the starting eleven for the first time this campaign.

Mark Noble keeps his place in the Hammers midfield so Said Benrahma remains on the bench and isn’t included from the off.

Johnson’s inclusion would indicate that Moyes have gone back to his five defenders formation with the 20-year-old playing at left wing-back and Aaron Cresswell moving back into a centre half spot alongside Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna.

Vladimir Coufal, whose wife gave birth on Christmas Day, starts at right wing back.

In midfield, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will partner Noble, who is likely to play in a more advanced role once again like he did at Stamford Bridge last time out.

There should be a front two judging by the team selection with Jarrod Bowen and Sebastien Haller leading the line, though Bowen could slot in behind the Ivorian frontman in the formation.

As always, Lukasz Fabianski starts in goal.

Michail Antonio has not made the cut to feature in the squad as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

West Ham: Fabianski; Coufal, Ogbonna, Balbuena, Cresswell, Johnson; Rice, Soucek, Noble; Bown, Haller.
