Confirmed West Ham team vs Aston Villa as Jesse Lingard given first start following Man Utd move

David Moyes has made two changes to his starting XI to face Aston Villa tonight, with Jesse Lingard handed his Hammers debut and Ryan Fredericks also coming into the team.

The two replace Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen in midfield behind Michail Antonio.

Jesse Lingard looks to be starting on the left of midfield with regular no.10 Said Benrahma playing behind Michail Antonio. Lingard and Benrahama could well swap positions throughout the match in order to break down the Villa defence.

West Ham transfer deadline day verdict

Fredericks will line up on the right-hand side of midfield in order to provide extra protection against the threat of Villa skipper Jack Grealish, a man Moyes said was "probably the best player in the Premier League at this moment."

Fredericks has played this role for West Ham in recent weeks when coming off the bench to replace Bowen with the Hammers leading and wanting to see the game out.

A full-back by trade means Fredericks will be more switched on to his defensive duties than the attacking-midfielder Bowen.

Fredericks selection gives Moyes the option to move away from the 4-2-3-1 formation that has worked for him in previous weeks and return to the back-five he played before Christmas if he wishes.

Lukasz Fabianski remains in goal for the Hammers with experienced goalkeeper David Martin taking his place on the bench ahead of the injured no.2 Darren Randolph.

The defence is made up of the usual back four with Vladimir Coufal at right-back, a centre-back partnership of Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna, with Aaron Cresswell taking up his regular left-back slot alongside them.

Tomas Soucek starts alongside captain Declan Rice in midfield with club captain Mark Noble not even on the bench tonight.

Antonio as always leads the line for The Hammers and will be hoping to get back to his goal-scoring best having blanked in his previous two matches.

West Ham XI - Fabianski; Coufal, Dawson, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Fredericks, Lingard, Benrahma; Antonio.

Substitues -Martin, Diop, Balbuena, Johnson, Lanzini, Fornals, Bowen, Yarmolenko, Odubeko
